Our World Record
In early 2016 we had the following pitch for our film (it made some people call us 'zany'):
'The next Howe, Fleury, and Getzlaf are lacing up their skates somewhere in small town Saskatchewan, their natural talent ready to embrace the NHL. And then there’s the rest of us. The passion and dedication is there, but the talent is lacking. Our main character Kaylee falls into this category. She wants desperately to someday be mentioned in the same category as Wickenheiser and Campbell, but she skates like her laces are tied together.
Throughout the film, Kaylee’s organizational skills are put to the forefront rather then her athletic ability. This creates a whole new avenue to the game for her, which eventually leads to the World Record attempt for the Longest Indoor Floor Hockey Game. One of the main ideas we are running with for this project is that we are going to actually attempt to break the world record that Kaylee breaks in the film.
We have an attempt date confirmed with the Guinness Book of World Records for this July, and we plan to use some of the footage from the actual record attempt in the film. The idea behind this is that Regina, and Saskatchewan as a whole, is a hockey loving community and we want to show that you don’t need ‘talent’ to show your love for the game. All you need is passion. And we have a lot of that same passion for this film.'
Fast forward over a year later and Prairie Cat Productions, along with 24 players and countless volunteers, broke the world record for the 'Longest Marathon Playing Indoor Hockey'. Our record attempt took place from July 29-31 2016 and lasted 62 hours and two minutes. The previous record was 60 hours. True to our original vision, footage from the actual record attempt can be seen in the completed film, giving a bit of new meaning to 'life imitating art'.
